Its beginning to look a lot like Christmas here at our nest…. Come that last week of November and I cannot hold back my itching to set up the Christmas décor. Decorating our home for Christmas and baking our holiday goodies are traditions that we cherish. Every area of our nest, including the kitchen and the restrooms, is decked out in holiday happiness....
We began collecting Christmas decorations from the first year of our marriage, and each year we added to it. Now we are proud owners of two cupboards full of Christmas décor.
Doesn't matter if it's Christmas or not, I love decorating our nest. There are nights when I fantasize about how I would decorate each room. Every inch of our nest is etched into my mind. I consider all permutations and combinations and then schematize each nook of our nest….
Before I let any décor item settle, I move it a thousand times. It’s something I do with all my décor items, not just my Christmas décor. My mantra while decorating is "Giving each item the time and space", this let’s me decide if I want to change the position or the place. My rule of thumb is to make sure there's enough room for folks to sit and relax… bum numbing corners for evening wine downs, chit chats and max coziness quotient is a must. Keeping it simple, but visually elegant is key.
Changing décor as per season is tedious and involves a lot of time and energy, but it is worth each second spent. Adding throws and blankets in winter, dhurries and light cotton curtains in summers, each adds its own charm to the décor and makes it more inviting.
When decorating for Christmas, I try and stick to the classic Christmas colors, red, green and golden. Also they blend well with the base colors in our nest. This year I kept the color theme for our tree golden which was a first for us.
Once you choose a color theme it is easy to add décor stuff. We decided on this color theme almost fourteen years back, and whenever we buy Christmas décor, we stick to the color theme.
We still remember the days we prayed for the things we have now. We are grateful for the blessings that we have gotten all through our lives and entreat that we keep on getting these gifts for a long time to come.
Happy Musings
